Do the DEW in the 9-1-2

Published Date: August 24th, 2007

Well, it seems that people love this little saying. Now we have to decide a few things.

  1. Is this legal or is it too close to Mountain Dew?
  2. Do we want a graphic too?
  3. What font will we use?
  4. Where will we get the shirts printed and what is someone willing to pay for one?

If we can answer some of these, we are well on our way.

1) If there are any readers from Hunter MacLean, they might be the best to know on the legality. And I’m speaking about them because held a special ACM meeting at Armstrong once over property rights.

2) As for graphic, maybe a small one will do.

3) Font has to be something bold and fun like Taco Stand or Broadway.

4) Wish I could help you on this one!

speaking of the Dew, does anybody know who this is?

Bernie, I don’t know who did it, but that’s funny. Parody for the win! Oh,the campaign signs are already up for those that haven’t seen them all over White Bluff yet.

I found the phrase listed at the Library of Congress by Pepsi, Co. Legally you should write to them asking for their consent.

If I remember correctly when using a trademark in satire it is best to avoid insulting the brand. In other words not to effect the sales, profits and reputation of the brand itself.

As an example, the graphic shouldn’t have a stick figure peeing into a tin can suggesting Mountain Dew is Dewberry urine.

It’s tricky.

Otherwise, on a personal note - I don’t want to ever do the Dew. Dew better never do me. Dew shouldn’t be done.

Don’t Dew it. Don’t Dew anything.

Mop up the Dew. Berry the Dew. Berry him deep, like a time capsule in a 10′ thick cement walled and hermetically sealed vault for a few thousand years.

Re: legalities, we might be overestimating the reach of our T-shirt, folks. I would gladly pay between $5-10. I would grudgingly pay $15-20, although I would feel very ashamed.

The name “Do the DEW in the 9-1-2” which was registered with the state of Georgia using a certificate upon my birth, has hereby been granted full and exclusive rights for printing of said combination of words on T-Shirts with the understanding that all profits from the sales will be to benefit programs that have been trying to end poverty in Savannah for the last 30 years.
