Cover the Uninsured Week…an amazing cause for us all
Published Date: March 27th, 2007
The Cover the Uninsured Week health fair is on Thursday, April 26 from 12:30 - 6:30 p.m. in Savannah Technical College’s Auditorium. Sponsored by the Chatham County Health Safety Net Council and Step Up, the event will include efforts around the country to promote the importance of children’s health coverage and to demonstrate support for the reauthorization of the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP).
The Chatham County Health Safety Net Council as well as Step Up are trying to find people who are willing to tell their stories about being uninsured to reporters to publicize not only the health fair, but also the issue.
The challenge is to overcome the public mindset that uninsured equals indigent, when in fact, it affects many working people, some who aren’t even considered the working poor. Te growing number of uninsured leads to the misuse and overuse of our community’s Emergency Departments breaking down our health care system and increasing the burden on the community’s health care “safety net” which includes clinics that provide care to the uninsured.
blogsavannah is asking for any help in these matters. Feel free to contact us with your story and we’ll get you in touch with the correct parties. We need to embrace these matters and not let our nations healthcare continue to go unattended.
