Will that be paper or plastic?

recycling bin

This bit of news was passed on to me by another concerned citizen in Savannah in regards to our insance rubbish and waste problem. Read on:

Our community is in the 11th hour and 45th minute of an effort to implement a residential recycling program in the City. Next week at their retreat, the Savannah City Council will be considering implementing a curbside recycling program. It is important to reach out to the mayor and your council member and let them know how important it is to you to have a single stream, curbside recycling program and municipal sorting facility. A strong show of support will allow the Councilmembers to realize how strongly residents of Savannah feel about the need to recycle.

Please take a moment to pick up the phone or write an email to your representative on Council, and encourage others to do the same. Together we can create positive change in our community.

You mean Savannah doesn’t have a recycling program already!?!? It’s 2006. It’s about time they started up this program!!!

I emailed everyone on the list, and have checked out more of Savannah’s City Council issues. I can’t believe that it is the year 2006 and Savannah doesn’t already have a curbside recycling program in place. I will def. take this up as my cause! It’s imperative for Savannah’s growth and development both as a coastal city location (major water pollution prox), and a tourist destination that they have these ‘Green’ principles developed. Thanks for the notice!

This is the letter from Alderman Johnson that I got in response to my email. Seems a bit formulaic to me.

Thank you for your email and your interest in a recycling program.
