Venus rising

I know that not everyone enjoys a good glass of wine; either by itself or with a meal. However, I am certainly NOT one of those people. In fact, at any given time you can come to my apartment and enjoy a red from chile, a blanc from France, a bit of bubbly from California or a cheaper box wine from somewhere off the Pacific Coast Highway. So, you can imagine my excitement when my friend Bryon, the new owner of Venus di Milo, asked me to be his guest at the wine tasting this evening at the bar. I found our more about it and for $30/person I knew this was going to be quite an affair. I was right as I walked in and realized I was going to be treated to a tasting of about 30 wines. In addition to several nice cheeses and some crackers that were quite good and on the fine food side, I experimented with several flavors I would not usually try. In fact, at some point during the night I had a sip or two of a cranberry wine from New Jersey. It was not very good but I felt rather adventurous just for trying it. My favorite of the night those was divided in two. I had a taste of Incognito which, although a bit dry, had a slight fruity taste and a crisp aftertaste and a try with a borsao Garnacha from Spain. It was quite pleasant and was easy to imagine having along side of a a medium rare prime rib. The whole night was quite enjoyable and worth the money (others paid…remember, I was a guest). I encourage you all to get out to Venus soon as Bryon has some great plans for the place and certainly does not skimp on any expense. You will thank yourself later!
