Treats or tricks? Where did she get that costume?

I stood out on the corner of Congress and Whitaker two nights ago and watched as countless revelers headed to bar after bar, party after party. 95% of them were dressed in their holiday fineries. I saw a chicken, Ronald Reagan, Darth Vader, Da Ali G, Marilyn Monroe, the entire cast of Rocky Horror, and even a guy who had something to do with the jungle and the nipple pierced people who inhabit it. Whatever the case, I think my friend and I remarked more on the number of kitties, angels, correctional officers, pirates, etc that walked by us? Why would we remark on them? Because these girls were not even half dressed. There was nothing left to the imagination. I was instantly reminded of the quote by Lindsay Lohan in the movie Mean Girls. “[the holiday] is the one night a year when girls can dress like a total slut and no other girls can say anything about it”. It seems that Halloween has become the perfect excuse for seemingly smart and sophisticated women — and men — to trick themselves out and treat their fellow revelers to a full-on eye-candy display. After talking to a friend who by day is a legal aid and by one night a year is a part of NYCs “boys in blue” (except she is a she and was wearing VERY LITTLE blue…but had multiple sets of handcuffs) I realized that often the mentality is that the above statement only applies if you have an inner slut. If there’s no inner slut, nothing is being unleashed. It is simply a night of make believe; plain and simple. It’s make believe time for adults. The question is though. What are making others believe?
