I think its interesting that as an artistic communicty we can’t find equal handed representation for all artists. In fact, I can’t believe that this is the case in many art laden communities. What am I getting at, you ask? Well, yesterday the Telfair announced a new group, Friends of African-American Arts, an auxiliary organization designed to promote and support art by African Americans. Do we really need another group with another agenda and another series of fundraising and more charity auctions and such? Why can’t the Telfair support all artists equally? I guess that goes down a road I shouldn’t travel. I guess that opens up many more political, geographical, and perhaps even cultural case-studies. That isn’t my intention. My intention is really just to ask when it will all end? I know the Telfair is also planning on some sort of teen advisory council which will help target teen audiences in Savannah.
You know the other day I was in City Market and I saw this really cool painting of a beagle done rather abstractly with vibrant colors and big, blue eyes. I couldn’t really afford it but it made me wonder. Should I help spearhead a group to support the causes of mainstream painters that focus on post-modern canine pieces? If I did you could all join me at our first fundraiser, the Doggie Delicato Luncheon at Paula Deen’s.
